This blog is for family and friends to keep up with our comings and goings. We will also post favorite recipes, desert gardening tips and hints, craft and quilting projects, etc. We live in an old mining town 35 miles southwest of Las Vegas, NV. The town has a population of approximately 250 brave souls. We have lived here 40 years and have learned alot about having a successful garden in the high desert. I do alot of baking, cooking, canning, quilting, sewing, tole painting and most needlework. We have wonderful mountain views, wild horses, old mines, miles and miles of trails and just a wonderful rural experience close to a large city. Life couldn't be better!!!

Well I am finally going to try out this blogging. Phill and I are sitting cozy by the fire looking out the window at the snow. Yes lots of snow in Goodsprings. We haven't had this much snow in 30 years. We got about 6 inches on Monday and then again today another 4 or so inches. It is really a winter wonderland. The pass to Sandy Valley was closed and the kids couldn't get back from middle school and high school. Bonnie took off for town about 8 pm. she just called and said she spun out on the freeway twice on the way to Vegas. Liz came home about 5 pm and said she was crawling most of the way. To some of you, no big deal but to us desert rats WOW.

Took Phill to kidney doc and they have diagnosed him with stage IV renal disease and diabetes, also put him on meds for high cholesterol and meds for parathyroid. He feels good but is taking a handful of pills now everyday plus checking blood sugar 3 times a day. He goes back for a little minor surgery on the 23rd for the basal cell on his ear.

We haven't done much in the way of Christmas so guess we will get busy and get a tree up, presents and some goodies baked.

We fixed dinner for Thanksgiving and since there was only going to be Phill, Hans and I we decided to rent community center and serve it there and invite everyone in Goodsprings that had no family or no where to go. We ended up with about 40 and very had a great time. Think we will do that every year.

I got in touch with someone I know in Vegas and got food and toys for families that needed a little boost this year. Hans and Phill helped and we sorted and put together boxes for about 9 families or individuals. Got bikes and toys for all the kids. Just a hint to everyone if you are going to donate food in a food drive, please don't put in chicken noodle soup. We must have had a 100 cans of chick noodle. Hope I never see another can! Everyone we took boxes to where so happy to get them.

Well, will close now and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Ruthie and Phill
